1080 recipes from Spain

In 1972 the first edition of Simone Ortega’s cookbook 1080 recetas de cocina was released. The cookbook is now on it’s 48th edition and it’s been bought by more than 2 million spaniards. In 2007 Simone Ortega, in collaboration with her her daughter Inés Ortega, released two english versions of 1080 recetas de cocina (1080 Recipes). The british version is publish by Phaidon and it’s wonderfully and playfully illustrated by designer Javier Mariscal. Simone Ortega passed away in 2008 but her legacy lives on through her legendary cookbook.

It has taken 20 years of research by author and culinary academic Pushpesh Pant to collect all the over 1000 recipes that make the massive cookbook with the simple name,
India Cookbook. India is a huge country with a rich culinary tradition so I can that it takes time to gather all the recipes but 20 years is impressive. And Pushpesh Pant quest hasn’t gone by unnoticed, his cookbook was recently named the best Indian cookbook in the world at the prestigious
Gourmand Cookbook Awards in Paris. The cookbook was designed by
Frost Design and it comes nicely packaged in a canvas bag that reminds of a sack of rice. Photos from and of the book can be found after the jump.

Usopposto have designed
La Puglia in un piatto (
Apulia on a plate) a cookbook that celebrates the food from one of those regions, Apulia. The cookbook containing 60 recipes that are accompanied by a series of graphic interpretations graphics applied to ceramic plates. They’ve also made a bespoke graphical font for the book that you can download from
